About Clamshell

Clamshell is a simple OpenID server that allows the management of multiple OpenID identities from a single web page.

It is derived from a number of sources, most notably phpMyId, the JanRain OpenId libraries and the forthcoming Drupal 6 implementation.

Clamshell offers three primary benefits over other OpenID software:

  • No mandatory libraries to install over and above PHP
  • No database requirements; user details (including a hashed password) are all stored in plain text files
  • Admin interface to handle multiple users


August 2, 2008 - Version 0.6.8 released. Lots of bugfixes, added Italian and a second Spanish location.
March 2, 2008 - Version 0.6.7 released. Improved Spanish and French localisations, option to display Simple Registration details on OpenID home page.
January 24, 2008 - Version 0.6.6 released. Improved support for short OpenIDs and localisation.
